i absolutely agree with you feel free to read my blog to hear my story ( still in the progress of writing it) the pill caused my stomach problems!!!!! Cinderella - hormones actually do have an effect on the bowels and intestines that is why there is a correlation between the menstrual cycle and women's flare ups - also why many women experience constipation and other bowel problems while pregnant

Please be careful self prescribing iron supplements as they can give you constipation. Also there are some foods which block the absorption of iron. Calcium is the only food which blocks the absorption of both haem (animal source) iron and non-haem (vegetarian source) iron, so avoid drinking milk with a meal. Also foods such as tea (containing phenols) will block the absorption of non-heam iron, so avoid drinking tea with meals. I suggest you see a nutritionist or dietician to help you with your diet (your doctor may be able to refer you).

Feeling anxious can have a direct affect on the bowel activity. As the mind - body (brain - gut) connection is very strong. As we know when we feel excited or nervous this can lead to a butterfly feeling in the stomach. Some people with IBS are very anxious about going out, attending meetings, going on public transport as the entire focus can be where's the nearest toilet. Stress management and working on the anxious feelings can be the key to reducing the IBS symptoms, as well as diet change.

I am sorry the IBS symptoms are getting you down. IBS can very frustrating at times, not only do you have to live with the symptoms but also try to figure out what works for you - as what works for someone may not necessary be successful for another person.

As Dave mentioned it's important to reduce stress. The mind-body (brain-gut) connection is very strong. For example, when you feel nervous or excited - where do you feel this in your body? Most people feel it in their stomach. Stress or emotional responses to daily life can influence how our bowels operate. However people with IBS are more likely to experience symptoms which are more frequent and severe. There are many ways you can reduce stress - yoga, exercise, hypnotherapy (is a proven technique), stress management.

I do not know the answer but I am young I am 11 years old and I have IBS or U.C. This started when I was five. It wasn't bad in kindrgarden of first grade but in second grade it was terrible. i missed so much school I was almost held back! I had to do so many testes it was i was so tired when we figured out. I did so many tests i did uren tests, blood tests, and a oltrasound. And I also didn't want to eat because i felt like i was going to throw up. so my advise would be only make him eat food that is confortable on his stomach, get some tests, and make him try to poop one or two times a day.

I have just read a few of these posts and my heart really goes out to everyone that is still suffering.

Im 62 and in very good shape through eating right foods and exercising, yet, I still got this *&^%!!!!!!

Doctors were absolutely no help and it didn't matter what I ate or drank, made me look like I was 6 months pregnant (I am sosososo way over that)

Also, it turned out that my 37 year old daughter was suffering the same way, yet, she had doctors tell her one thing one moment and another the next......

So we went on an education rampage to find out what was going on and what we found, in time, solved our issues and now we understood how this developed

This takes years and years to develope so just dont think that it was an over night thing and it wont reverse it self overnight either.

You can get back into eating regular food and drinks, but, hopefully then, you can have the education of not getting in to the same situation again

I have my daughters story at ibsthecure.com and I am sure that it will be very similar to yours

Any questions please leave a response on the last page

Good Luck!!!

I started taking Bio K dairy Free probiotic recently and it helps my extreme constipation . I used to have one bm a month now I go every second day.
You can find it at health food stores and a few grocery store in the 'organic' section.

IBS Feedback: Hi. I have IBS and Acid Reflux. During the first few weeks of my pregnancy, I had very irregular bowels and a lot of cramping. I too thought something was wrong with my pregnancy. Everything turned out to be just fine. I also had a miscarriage 5 years ago, so I understand your fear. Do not worry so much about it as you may worsen everything. Visit your doctor and have them give you an ultrasound to make sure your pregnancy is in the right place. With ectopic pregnancies by the way, I don't know how far along you are, but you would get major cramping and you would definitely know that it is not your bowels.
Wish you the best of luck, stay positive and stop worrying. See your doctor ASAP!
