IBS Feedback: If you qualify financially you could get medicaid. Other than that I don’t know of any other way except for SSI…..I am not so sure a child with crohns would qualify.
IBS Feedback: Depends on alot of things really i just got SSI for my son after 20 years of waiting, depends on income, how bad your son is??? you need to get a letter of medical nessitarty So i wish you the Bst of Luck. GL:)
IBS Feedback: hi fennen, i have had crohns disease since the age of 12.
have you tried calling the ccfa (crohns and colitis foundation of america) and asking for information?
check out their site. they have a live chat M-F 9 am - 5 pm as well as a toll free number you can call. Both are manned by healthcare professionals well versed in dealing with IBD.
Also, on the site you can find information regarding diet, medications, and even locating a support chapter where you can meet other parents to obtain information. They have educational meetings as well which have speakers from insurance companies, dieticians, counselors, and even the drug reps who make Crohn’s meds. Try to attend a meeting. I’ve gotten alot of information from the drug reps on how to get my meds at a reduced rate.
Good luck.
IBS Feedback: If I were you I would go for SSI. They might deny your claim at first but just keep putting it in appeal because they usually deny the first claim. I know of several parents who are receiving SSI for various Medical Physical and Mental problems with there child. Just don’t take NO for answer. If you have to, get a lawyer. If you can’t afford one call Legal Aid. I’m sure they could help. I would also try for State Disability At the same time. It would run concurrent with SSI. Go to the Department of Human Services for State help. Good Luck to you and your family!!
