Can you answer soleil7372’s question about IBS?:
Can anyone give me any success stories on dealing with IBS, without ruining my life? I tried an herbal remedy, which worked for a while, but now I am starting to have trouble again. It’s very depressing, especially because we are a very busy family, and I never know when I will have an attack! Please only answer seriously, as I am depressed enough as it is, since I am only 34! Thanks.

IBS Feedback: PRUNES!
IBS Feedback: I know several people with IBS and they changed their diet along with taking Herbal Aloe concentrate and fiber tablets from the following site and have been under control and feeling normal:
under shopping and targeted nutrition and look for digestive health. this truly works.
Good Luck!!

IBS Feedback: A bland diet is suggested. Don’t eat foods that are harsh on the digestive system, such as fatty foods, nuts, fruits with seeds or peels, certain veggies. Nothing should be to hot or to cold. Take a fiber supplement.
I found that one I get it under control I can stray from the diet a little, but if it starts to bother me again, I go back to the diet.
Another thing I found odd that irritates is iced tea, I’m not sure why.
IBS Feedback: You may have been told this, the best thing for stomach problems is a pro biotic. I had irritable bowel sydrome for years.
Last Christmas I started taking Natren’s pro biotic, and it has all cleared up. It doesn’t happen over night but it does work.
You have to order it by phone and they have a web site. It is a very expensive pro biotic but it is the best. I have tried other pro biotics and was not happy with any other.
IBS Feedback: I agree with the diet change, although it may be easier than you think. I had the problem for several years and I tried eating completely different foods, which didn’t work. But, as soon as I stopped drinking soda, all my problems went away. The carbonation was the culprit. I’ve drank almost no carbonated beverages for 5 years and haven’t had one more problem since.
IBS Feedback: I have IBS and have had it since I turned 39. I have the kind with diarrhea. I use a prescription product called Bentyl. It’s very inexpensive and works really well. It’s an anti-spasmodic and it stops the abdominal cramps. For the diarrhea, I take an Imodium every day. Sometimes I have to take 2 if I have a flare up. I can usually keep it under control that way.
I am so sorry you are having such trouble. You need to see a doctor and get some Bentyl if you have the diarrhea version. If you have the constipation version, you might try fiber. I head that works really well. Good luck!
IBS Feedback: I’m 20 and I’ve had IBS since I was about 7, though not diarria type, constapative. My doctors put me on donnatal (http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/don1146.htm )about two years ago and it has been the best to ease the problems.
The webmd area about IBS has some really go recipies and other simple solutions to help with IBS (if you have constipation try the 7 layer bean dip, under IBS & constipation, it’s turned into one of my favorite foods)
IBS Feedback: You need to reduce stress. Take 10 minutes of quiet time for yourself morning and night (wake up earlier than the rest of the family if you have to) and don’t do anything but stand up straight, try to imagine how you felt when you were very young and breathe slowly and deeply. Try not to force a poo, just let it happen. When your mind and body are relaxed, your body’s functions will be relaxed.
Try using a Toto “Washlet” for cleaning up down there (it’s like a portable bidet) instead of gobs of paper.
I am sorry the IBS symptoms are getting you down. IBS can very frustrating at times, not only do you have to live with the symptoms but also try to figure out what works for you - as what works for someone may not necessary be successful for another person.
As Dave mentioned it’s important to reduce stress. The mind-body (brain-gut) connection is very strong. For example, when you feel nervous or excited - where do you feel this in your body? Most people feel it in their stomach. Stress or emotional responses to daily life can influence how our bowels operate. However people with IBS are more likely to experience symptoms which are more frequent and severe. There are many ways you can reduce stress - yoga, exercise, hypnotherapy (is a proven technique), stress management.
