Can you answer Renee’’s question about IBS?:

Over a year ago my doctor diagnosed me with IBS. I first started showing symptoms after a c-section for my baby. Over time I have gotten worse with flare ups occuring often and I’m very limited to what I can eat or drink. I’m on Zelnorm and it doesn’t help at all. I get these strange, indescribable stomach aches that are really controlling and ruining life for me. No one understands, not even my doctor. Anyone know of a product to help me?

IBS Feedback: Yes, I have IBS too. The symptoms vary widely. Try taking a fiber laxative on a regular basis, like Centrum. Also, make sure to eat healthy and get a lot of fiber in your diet. You may also want to consider some way to control your stress as often IBS is set off by stress that you carry and may not even be aware of.

IBS Feedback: Hello, I too have IBS and it can be quite Debilitating… I got to a point that when I ate I ran to the toilet with cramping and diarehhoa. It certainly can make your stomach tender. I am not sure about the nausea as never experienced that

My suggestion would try some natural therapies and find a dr who is more equipped to handle your condition. You certainly shouldnt have to suffer as there as so many things to try…

Learn to avoid your trigger foods and really do find another Dr to help you out..

IBS Feedback: First you need to find out if your IBS is more nerves (emotions) or physical (biological). Which if it was, it probably won’t be IBS but a worse form of it. And if it is biological, its very hard to treat and maintain a normal life. If it IS just IBS and nerves, than the best root is therapy and stress related medication. I was on Paxil and going through therapy to calm down my IBS symptoms and that helped. I was off Paxil after half a year and hardly ever got sick. Unfortunately, 4 years later they are back, and I probably need to go back to treatments.

If it is foods (pending that they are not allergies) check out this website:

Sometimes drugs aren’t the answer if you can help it. Find out what foods disagree with you. Mental therapy will strengthen your mind and body. Drugs should be used only for extremities or necessary means.

IBS Feedback: Zelnorm doesn’t work for everyone. And if you have adhesions from your C-section, then I don’t know why your doctor prescribed it. Did the stomach aches start up when you started the Zelnorm?

My IBS also got worse after abdominal surgery. I find that the only way to keep it under control is to live life on a regular schedule.
Eat meals at the same time every day, try to use the bathroom at the same time of day [hopefully morning] and don’t take a job that requires a very early reporting time or late night work. You need time to “stabilize” your system. I also take one Imodium tablet every morning, and I drink water throughout the day.

I’ve found that fatty foods with non-fermenting fiber are best for keeping my system in tune…such as nuts. Vegetables and fruit definitely make things worse, as does too much dairy. I have a wonky gall bladder so fats have to be in moderation.

I totally understand how complicated this disease can be, and how it sometimes limits living your life to its fullest. Good luck.
I hope that you find out what’s causing the stomach aches. It sounds as if things are backing up and/or you’re having trouble with the meds.

Try sticking to an absolute routine and see if it helps.
